History of NVBC
North Victory Baptist Church came out of Victory Cell Group Junior, one among many in First Filipino Baptist Church. Victory Cell itself came from Victory Cell Senior, which was then led by Emil and Fely Labro. Among the original members of Victory Cell Junior were Alex and Malou Ibay (leader), Jubi Camba, Haide Tabije, Dina Turla, Neneng Niturla and Gene and Nelda Cardinal. Several new members came in by way of migration, many of whom came from Hong Kong. By 2003, the average attendance was around 35 per meeting. In September 2003, the leaders formally shared their vision of forming a church with Pastor Dr. Eliezer Catanus and the Deacons of FFBC, who gladly gave their blessing and was ultimately approved by the congregation. In July 2004, Victory Cell Junior was officially commissioned by FFBC to establish a new church in Northern Toronto with Pastor Henry Manansala, as Pastor. In January 2005, with 65 people, the first worship service was held in William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate (Allen Road and Sheppard).
By God’s grace and through the hard work of the leaders and the members, the church grew tremendously fast. The average Sunday attendance jumped to about 150 in 2008 and 250 in 2012. Here are some of the highlights in our history:
- 2007 NVBC became an independently registered church
- 2012 Nars Tuyadang was called to be Assistant Pastor
- 2013 God blessed NVBC with its first building in 432 Rogers Road
- 2014 P. Nars led the Maple/Vaughan Outreach
- 2014 Ramiro Basical was called to be Assistant Pastor
- 2016 Outreach in Guelph was launched by the Maple Outreach, under the leadership of Pastor Arnel Lindongan
- 2017 God blessed NVBC with its first “chapel” in 1067 Glencairn Ave.
Throughout the years, God used many people to bless NVBC and its church plants, who served in the Board and Council and various ministries. and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.” (1 Thess. 5:12)
